catherine packed the last of her bags onto the horse before swinging her leg over the beast. She checked her weapons once more before deeming herself prepared her father was already mounted and waiting. ‘Hurry, child.’ he said. ‘The rest of the scouting party has already left.’ ‘Yes father.’ Catherine said. She fingered the small symbol that hung on a chain around her neck and said a silent prayer. They left the small shack made of cobble and chunks of wood and struck out to the outskirts of the village. They passed similar, hastily constructed homes and the other builders going about their business. Few waved, as the others were constantly busy With something. transporting crates and bags, cooking food, building more houses with the materials at hand. Always working, always moving, Catherine thought. Never home.
