Revise this passage to remove the instance of informal language in order to maintain a formal style throughout. Songwriting, and music in general, have had a huge effect on the lives of countless young Americans. In the past, songs became stories that provided young people with a creative outlet and a voice for change. But as technology has progressed, the creativity of the songwriting process has been lost, and the importance of music has disappeared. Nobody's writing decent songs anymore because folks are too busy playing on the Internet or watching stupid videos on their computers.
