To have nine lives means to always get out of extreme difficulty and dangerous occurrence without getting hurt and also having the endurance to survive despite having a near encounter with death or disaster.

It can also be said to someone who goes to a near death situation and then survives without much bodily damage.

An example is when you try to tell someone to buckle up for difficult situations as used below;
