Annie John is now seventeen and is going to head to England to study nursing. She wakes on the morning that she will leave knowing that later in the day she shall take a boat to Barbados and then to England. Annie looks over everything in her house thinking about her life and about how either her mother or father made everything that is in it. In one way this familiarity makes Annie feel nostalgic, but in another way it makes her realize that she has to go elsewhere to develop her own self.

Annie is experiencing mixed feelings about her family life and her career. She has vision to build herself and move to another city to study nursing and build her career in the same field. She is also experiencing a feel of some regret to leave her house that her parents has build for her.

When a person is moving to a different lifestyle he feels a bit nervous and anxious. Annie is also feeling the same as is planning to move to a new city where she will probably have to change her lifestyle. She is excited for her journey towards her career growth but also feeling sad to leave everything behind that she already has. She is attached to her parents home and everything in it. This could be hard decision for Annie but she has to loose something in order to achieve something better and more beautiful.
