Why are dialect and other aspects of language so important in historical fiction? A mixture of modern expressions and outdated speech makes a book more interesting.

Dialect helps the story seem realistic for the time period when it was supposed to occur.

When its language isn’t difficult to understand, a story doesn’t seem like a classic.

If the author writes the story in a dialect, it is much easier to read and understand.
