In each text, the explorers come into contact with Native Americans (“Indians”) at various times throughout their journeys. Some of these interactions are peaceful and some warlike. Compare and contrast the explorer’s interactions with natives in the two texts. Who got along best with the natives? What were the attitudes and beliefs they explorers and colonists held about native populations, and how did these attitudes/beliefs affect their interactions?
