Being a surgeon is a very skillful an delicate job to say the least. You have to have superior knowledge of anatomy to be able to the job even slightly correct, and the only way to do that is to read about it, and go in depth of the subject by researching it.  Oral communication is also extremely important, because you can't do a surgery by yourself, and how are you going to ask for help without speaking? You have to be able to work with others and communicate thoroughly, so you don't end up doing a 2 hour surgery in 5.
