ERAS:
compulsory era - era of education in which the government had the most control over what children learned and how they were educated
encouraging era- era of education in which public education was made available to children but parents were still allowed to choose whether or not to send their children to school
freedom or school choice era - era of education in which there is an increase in the number of alternative schooling options available for children
permissive era - era of education in which some local governments set up public schools but the decision whether or not to send a child to school was left completely up to the parents
