In the novel, Matched, by Ally Condie, the government control is very different from real life’s government control. In Matched, the government controls most of your life, and if you don’t obey, you will be punished. In real life, you have more choices and freedom. The type of control in Matched has many differences to real life government control.  

In the novel Matched, you barely have any freedom. The government and it’s Society chooses your life. For example, you have to die at 80, your husband/wife is chosen by the "matching machine”, and you are given three pills. Also, you can’t even escape, because if they catch you, they’ll punish you, and the Society is surrounded by miles and miles of land. Before the rebels took over, your allowed choices were very limited. The Society and government did this because they wanted power (especially over the rebels), and they also thought it was reasonable. In this dystopian world, the government is very strict and very unalike to the type of government control in real life.  

In real life, the type of government control is very different. The government gives you rights to have choices. You can do anything except for things that affect other people. If anything, your parents are the one who makes the most of your choices (except for yourself). In your own house, you are most likely to be controlled. After you officially become an adult, you are free to do anything you want to do. The difference is, the government and your parents are controlling you for a reason. If you commit a crime, that is bad because it affects other people. Also, your parents seem to be strict, but in reality, they just want you to be successful. In real life, you have more rights.  

There are a few similarities between real life and the world in the book Matched. You are still being controlled, if you do something wrong, you are still punished. It is just not as strict in real life. In real life, you have freedom to do anything. In Matched, you can still do anything, but you’ll have to be very brave. Cassia, Ky, Indie, the Pilot, and the rebels were brave and the Society broke down. In both worlds, you still have the power to do anything you want.

In conclusion, both worlds; in real life and in Matched, are similar and different. In Matched, your life is mostly controlled by the government. In real life, you can make your own choices. You can be controlled by people, but no one can control you more than yourself.
