Chuchundra knew that those who kill snakes are likely to get killed by one. He worried that Nag might mistake him in the darkness for Rikki-tikki.
Rikki-tikki was worried that Nag would come after him, and he went to see Chuchundra for advice.
Chuchundra was “sorrowful” over the killing of the snake. “More than ever,” he was sure Nag would think he was Rikki-tikki some night in the darkness.
“Those who kill snakes get killed by snakes,” said Chuchundra, more sorrowfully than ever.
