The story, The World on th Turtle's Back tells of a certain pregnant Iroquois woman who had a lot of cravings and demanded them from her husband. Once, she made her husband dig up a tree to get her its bark. But they discovered a hole with water underneath.

The birds pulled themselves to carry the woman but they could not. Next, the Turtle volunteered to help.
