The Importance of Competition A competition is a great way to engage students to be more interested in school activities because it adds a "fun" element to the learning process. Competitions are also known to motivate some students. But are competitions always healthy? Is being part of competitions the only way to prove capability? Students' families should not force students to participate in competitions.
The idea of winning a competition may be so demanding that a student may concentrate all of his or her efforts on preparing for the competition over other things. This may create an imbalance in the student's life. Students might also neglect their studies because they are intent at being successful in only one thing. This fear of losing may also make students overwork, which can have a negative effect.
Moreover, it is obvious that any competition will have only one winner, and the others have to brace themselves for disappointment. Sometimes, even though a person may perform well, he or she may lose a competition to someone who performs slightly better. This disappointment can affect the confidence of the competitor, and therefore, his or her performance.
Thus, competitions can have a negative impact on students.
