Too often we either write in sentences that are too short or in sentences that are run-on. This week we will work with the sentences that are too short. We will fix these by combining and possibly rearranging, keeping the meaning of the word.

Here is an example:

- Serena Williams waited for the next serve.
- Her muscles were tensed.
- She was eager.

With her muscles tensed, Serena Williams waited eagerly for the next serve.
(NOTE: you may add necessary words or delete unnecessary words; you may change verb tenses.)

Okay, your turn with the five sets below. There can be several variations but you must keep the essence of the message.

1. Doctors huddled over the patient.
They are in the emergency room.
The patient is badly injured.

2. One doctor checks for a heartbeat.
He checks immediately.
He checks with his stethoscope.

3. Another doctor peers into the patient's eyes.
The eyes look glassy.
The doctor uses a special light.

4. The eyes act as windows.
They are windows into the body.
They are windows for doctors.

5. Doctors detect clues to disorders.
They look through the eyes.
The disorders are medical.
