A research article titled "Children and TV by researchers Dr. Peter Griffin and Dr. Lols Griffin,
appeared in the Child Psychology Journal, 2007, Volume 22, pp. 2-4. In this study, 20 seven year
old children were randomly selected and assigned to one of two groups. Each group had 10
children. The author proposed that the children who view a child themed show will illustrate more
creativity and less aggressiveness as compared to the group of children viewing an'adult themed
show. In Group #1, children watched the child themed show. 'Mr Rogers' on TV for a minimum of
two hours daily for one week. In Group #2, children watched the adult themed show, "Family Guy
for a minimum of two hours daily for one week.
At the end of one week, both groups of children were measured on creativity and aggression,
Research conducted in 2005 at Quahog University, by Dr. Cleveland Brown, found that many
children who view adult themed shows had decreased creativity and increased aggression. Further
research has illustrated that children viewing more than five hours of TV dally were at risk for
Increased aggression (). Swanson, 1999). Similarly. In this current study by Griffin and Griffin, the
two groups of children illustrated comparable results as seen below.
In this study by Griffin and Griffin, both groups of children were analyzed on creativity using the
"Remote Associates Test' (RAT). The two groups of children were also measured on aggressive
behaviors with the use of an 'Assertiveness Test: The results from data collected illustrates,
children who viewed 'Mr. Rogers' scored higher on creativity and low on aggression. While the
children who viewed 'Family Guy, had a slight decrease in creativity and a significant increase in
