Australian cyclist Peter Dawson raced well enough to win his team a place in the 2004 Olympic finals. However,
members of the six-member team could compete in the finals. The coach chose the four cyclists that together had
record earlier in the competition. So When Australia won the gold, Dawson and his teammate, Stephan Wooldridg
a medal. Still, he was in the stadium that day, carrying bikes and offering encouragement. Later, the International
Committee decided to award Dawson and Wooldridge gold medals also
