With the word “loss” the author wants the readers to understand that in the end, there was no victory at all for him. Due to the circumstances and the dead of Abdul-Karim, the author was there with his people, contemplating Karim’s body knowing that they were losers.

Part of the excerpt says: “When he saw me coming up the officer said “We’ve lost the information. Dang it! They killed that Arab of yours.
