Sony and Nintendo are companies that make and sell video game consoles. They compete for the best-selling device. Sony has officially announced it is making the PlayStation 5, but this next generation of devices could be the last.

Sony spoke exclusively with Wired, a technology magazine. The company confirmed it will release the PlayStation 5 in 2020 before the holidays. The devices will support ray-tracing technology, which is a lighting method that makes video games look more realistic.

The console will also have faster and more advanced hardware. Games will load more quickly and the device will save information faster. The hardware should also have higher graphic resolutions.

Plenty Of Game Console Competition

The PlayStation 5 console will compete with the Nintendo Switch and a Microsoft console nicknamed Project Scarlett. The handheld-hybrid Switch can be used with a TV, as a tablet or as a handheld device.

Both the Playstation 5 and the new Microsoft console will arrive around the same time, before the end of 2020. Many video game experts think the PlayStation 5 is part of the last generation of consoles. In the future, people might stream video games on their other devices.

Sony also gave details about the PlayStation 5 controller in a blog post on October 8. The controller will feature what the company calls "adaptive triggers." The controls can be programmed for touch-based resistance, replicating the sensation of pulling the string on a bow.

The new PlayStation will get rid of the old "rumble" vibration technology. Instead, the controllers will have touch-based haptic feedback, featuring a broad variety of different vibrations. Haptic technology lets users control devices through touch, like on the iPhone. Haptics technology was first introduced with PlayStation 3's controllers.

Tough To Top PlayStation 4's Sales

The Wired reporter tested the new controller on a virtual-reality game called "Astro Bot Rescue Mission." The game features many different surfaces for the Astro Bot to run over. The reporter said the controller's vibrations mimicked different feelings in the game, like mud feeling slow and soggy.

For the last six years, Sony was at the forefront of video game consoles. By June, the PlayStation 4 had sold 100 million consoles worldwide, making it the first console to reach that many sales so quickly. Microsoft's Xbox One has sold roughly half that number. The Nintendo Switch has sold more than 36 million at a similar rate to the PlayStation 4.

Both consoles arrive at the edge of what appears to be an all-streaming, cloud-based future. Cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer's hard drive.

New services will allow people to stream games on any device, like their computer or phones, and separate consoles will not be needed. Google Stadia, a streaming video game service, is set to be released in November this year. Microsoft is testing its upcoming xCloud service for Xbox One-level gaming on Android smartphones in some countries.

The Last Of A Game Generation?

Gaming experts believe the PlayStation 5 will be part of the last generation of consoles. Yves Guillemot runs the gaming company Ubisoft. He told Variety magazine last year that an all-streaming future will make gaming more accessible to players. Executives at large software publishers such as Square Enix and Take-Two Interactive Software also expressed doubts about how much excitement another generation of consoles can offer.

It has been a while since computer imaging has excited people, though. The PlayStation 5 appears to be an opportunity to once again amaze the gaming audience. Even PC gamers, who already play games on the computer, have a lot to look forward to. Because of the popularity of consoles, game makers often used old PlayStation 4 consoles as the basis for their games. They held back performance on products that could be made for fancier computers.

The computer magazine PC World says that the PlayStation 5 will feature technology even computer gamers cannot own yet. Therefore, the next generation of video game consoles will benefit everyone.

Excerpt from 100% - the story of a patriot upton sinclair 10 so peter walked along, with his belt drawn tight, and his restless blue eyes wandering here and there, looking for a place to get a meal. there were jobs to be had, but they were hard jobs, and peter wanted an easy one. there are people in this world who live by their muscles, and others who live by their wits; peter belonged to the latter class; and had missed many a meal rather than descend in the social scale. 11 peter looked into the faces of everyone he passed, searching for a possible opening. some returned his glance, but never for more than a second, for they saw an insignificant looking man, undersized, undernourished, and with one shoulder higher than the other, a weak chin and mouth, crooked teeth, and a brown moustache too feeble to hold itself up at the corners. peters' straw hat had many straws missing, his second-hand brown suit was become third-hand, and his shoes were turning over at the sides. in a city where everybody was "hustling," everybody, as they phrased it, "on the make," why should anyone take a second glance at peter gudge? why should anyone care about the restless soul hidden inside him, or dream that peter was, in his own obscure way, a sort of genius? no one did care; no one did dream. 12 it was about two o'clock of an afternoon in july, and the sun beat down upon the streets of american city. there were crowds upon the streets, and peter noticed that everywhere were flags and bunting. once or twice he heard the strains of distant music, and wondered what was "up." peter had not been reading the newspapers; all his attention bad been taken up by the quarrels of the smithers faction and the lunk faction in the first apostolic church, otherwise known as the holy rollers, and great events that had been happening in the world outside were of no concern to him. peter knew vaguely that on the other side of the world half a dozen mighty nations were locked together in a grip of death; the whole earth was shaken with their struggles, and peter had felt a bit of the trembling now and then. but peter did not know that his own country had anything to do with this european quarrel, and did not know that certain great interests throughout the country had set themselves to rouse the public to action. based on the author's characterization of peter in paragraphs 10, 11, and 12, which word best describes him? a) industrious b) loyal c) patriotic d) poor
