Artistic expression, also called self-expression, helps us to distinguish among others, to reflect our thoughts, believes, feelings, needs, etc. It actually represents our internal visions by using an external form.  

We define ourselves through artistic expressions because we express our needs, hopes, feelings, etc. and we are actually representing us to the audience by revealing the internal part of our being.

in sentence number   two   the pronoun he refers to charles dickens the author. yet, the first half of the sentence is about the book a tale of two cities. to repair this it would be better to rephrase the first half : after i read   a tale of two cities by dickens, he so as to remove the remote reference.
