We shouldn't respond to fear on what we think is a clear option, rather we should respond to it by looking at a bigger picture on how it is going to affect our lives in the future.

The obvious option here is "not to perform at all," however, performing would mean that the person will have the chance to experience how it feels to perform in front of the crowd and this could also help him overcome his fear. This could also give him the chance to be recognized by other people, especially when he's talented.
