Write a short paragraph that explains the central idea of the article. Use at least two details from the article to support your response.
The article :
Last year, a new illness showed up in China. Since then, it has spread around the world. Scientists determined that a new virus is responsible.

The new virus is part of a group of viruses. They are called coronaviruses. One kind of coronavirus causes the common cold. But other kinds of coronaviruses can make people more sick.

How Viruses Make People Sick
A virus is a tiny particle. It is made of genetic material. This material stores information. It tells the virus how to work. Viruses make copies of themselves. They do this by injecting their genetic material into the cell of a living creature.

This new virus causes the disease COVID-19. The disease can lead to serious symptoms. People can have trouble breathing. This can be deadly. Scientists are trying to find ways to stop the virus from spreading.

Vaccines Help Bodies Fight Viruses
Vaccines are tiny amounts of a weakened virus. Your body sees the weak virus as an attack. It starts to make antibodies. These are proteins. They help fight off the virus if they see it again in the future.

Making a vaccine is difficult. It can take months. It can even take years. Some scientists are trying a new, faster way.

Fighting A Virus Using Its Own RNA
This new virus uses genetic material in the form of RNA. RNA is a molecule. It stands for ribonucleic acid. Cells need RNA to make proteins. The scientists changed the virus's RNA into DNA. DNA is another type of genetic material. It contains instructions. The instructions tell living creatures, like humans, how to grow and work.

Next, they put bits of DNA into bacteria. Bacteria are tiny, single-celled organisms. The DNA tells the bacteria how to make the virus's proteins. Those proteins can be used in the vaccine.

This is a faster way to make a vaccine. It took about a month to make. The scientists still have to test it. This will make sure it is safe. But it will still be a year or more before people can get the vaccine.

Messenger RNA
Another team of scientists is making a new kind of vaccine. It would tell the body how to make its own vaccine. It is called a messenger RNA vaccine. Messenger RNA is also called mRNA. Inside cells, mRNA delivers instructions. It tells cells how to make a protein.

The mRNA vaccine will tell the body how to make proteins. Next, the proteins will tell the body to make antibodies. The antibodies will attack the virus. That means scientists won't need a lab to make the vaccine. But they still need to make the mRNA.

Some mRNA vaccines are almost ready to test in people. But there is another problem. Companies might not be able to make large amounts of the mRNA doses.

Try Using My Antibodies
It can take months for vaccines to work. The body has to make enough antibodies. Then, it can fight off the infection. But there is another way in which the body can make antibodies. People who get sick and recover also have antibodies. Those antibodies stay in their blood. If they get the same virus again, then they have some protection.

Could we just give people a shot of another person's antibodies? The shot could work faster than vaccines. Scientists are studying this question.

Scientists do not know if these vaccines will work. It might take six months for us to find out. It could even take longer.
