Geoff rushed toward the brick entrance as his mother and father struggled to keep up with him. Geoff had been waiting for a long time to visit the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. As he got close to the door, he couldn’t believe the time had finally arrived.

From a young age, Geoff had been interested in everything about sports. Not only did he play and watch sports when he could, but he also studied them. Geoff could recall a list of players, teams, scores, dates, and other information. It seemed to Geoff that the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame was the best place to visit for his birthday.

3When Geoff and his parents walked inside, they were not sure what to look at first. Geoff suggested that they first tour the exhibits. They saw many interesting pieces of memorabilia. Geoff heard a fellow visitor say that the Hall of Fame had artifacts and exhibits covering high school, college, professional, Olympic, and Paralympic sports, as well as exhibits about great moments in Georgia athletics. Geoff and his parents studied the exhibits. During their search, they saw a jersey worn by a National Basketball Association player. Then, Geoff saw a gold medal from the Olympics! He had always thought it was neat that Atlanta had hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1996.

4Geoff had a few of his favorite sports trading cards in his pocket. Geoff had chosen to visit the museum on the day that it was holding a sport-card trade show. He wanted to see the rare and unique cards that some of the sellers offered. Geoff pulled a stack of baseball cards out of his pocket. He had brought the cards of some of his favorite baseball players from Georgia. To Geoff’s surprise, the former heavy hitter George “Boomer” Scott was at the Hall of Fame signing cards. At first, Geoff was so nervous that he didn’t want to approach Boomer. Then, after his mother assured him that it was fine, Geoff had Boomer sign some of his cards.

“George ‘Boomer’ Scott is the best baseball player,” Geoff said excitedly as they walked away.

Then Geoff’s father suggested that they watch a movie in the hall’s theater. The theater was cool and dark, and Geoff’s family enjoyed watching a movie that featured the Atlanta Crackers, an old Georgia baseball team.

7Geoff saved the best part of the Hall of Fame for last: he went to see pictures of the people who had been inducted into the Hall of Fame over the years. As he walked, he saw pictures of famous athletes who had made their mark on history. Geoff spotted many notable athletes. He also read about other ones that weren’t familiar to him.

The last stop on Geoff’s trip was the gift shop. In the Locker Room Gift Shop, Geoff saw many sports-related gifts. He wanted to get something to remember his trip. Geoff bought a large Hall of Fame picture frame. Then, he and parents got their picture taken at the entrance. As they left the building, Geoff thought about the fun he had had and the interesting history lesson he experienced.
