In Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," Victor explains he did not make his creature happy because he had to protect humanity, which is ironic because, by divising the monster, he challenged God, nature and science, and he also put humankind in danger. Besides, he mentions that the creature destroyed his life because he refused to build a companion for it. However, Victor always put himself first and abandoned the creature, who was good at first but eventually became evil because his creator's carelessness and because his ugly appearance did not fit in society.
