Select a set of instructions—it could be part of a technical manual in your field, instructions for a general audience, a recipe for a meal you made last night, or any other type of instructions for which you are the target audience. Type or paste a copy of the original instructions at the beginning of your assignment file. Using the information from Chapter 19 and the checklist on page 468, evaluate the sample’s usability. Write a memo (see Chapter 15) to your boss, Ms. Penny Piercy, discussing the strong and weak points of the instructions. After the memo, rewrite the instructions by building on the strong points and improving the weak points. Make sure that your revised instructions also meet the criteria for usable instructions as outlined in the checklist on page 468. Remember to include a copy of the original instructions, and clearly label the new instructions.
