How did sports influence you?
In my seven years of playing sports since grade six, there are at least three I could name on how sports influenced me: being responsible, raising my confidence, and keeping a positive mindset under any conditions. Coming into high school, I told myself I wasn't going to let it fly without making memories and doing what I love. I joined basketball, volleyball, badminton, football, and even jazz and concert band throughout my high school years- all while staying above the 85% mark. In order to keep doing what I love, I had to be responsible. Hand in my work on time, committing to the team, and managing my time properly. Being on the team was a privilege, and I had to put my education above everything else in order to stay. Secondly, It has raised my confidence so much because it makes me feel like I am contributing well to my community, team/peers, and myself. It gives me so many chances to prove myself, my skill, my worth, and no matter the end result- there is always a team that believes in me. Most importantly, while sport is an activity that is all about skill, it is also a mental battle. I never realized how emotions and outlook has so much impact on how I performed; but it did. Playing can get stressful, thinking about winning, losing, getting in the zone, or even about doing the right thing as practiced can be the deciding condition of the game. It made me realize how much power I have over what could happen if I had just changed my mindset. Being involved in sports is something I am proud to be doing. It gave me so many transferable skills applicable to real life, and it has made me a better person in so many ways.

did it influence your career goals?

My participation in sports has not influenced my career goals because it has always been a hobby of mine; however, I have a huge appreciation for what it teaches me, and I see the importance of involving sports in my life. It keeps me healthy, happy, motivated, and feel worthy. It's something I enjoy a lot, and I will probably continue to do it for the rest of my life.

Has your participation influenced how you relate to your family?

My parents have been stellar and has given consistent support with driving me and my sisters to and from school for our activities. Three of my sisters and I are all involved with sports. Just this year, three of us are in the same team together. Next year, my youngest sister will be graduating from elementary and to my high school to join our sports. My coach could not wait for next year. We've gained quite the reputation at school to the point where we're just called the (lastname) Sis. It's a special bond we have together because we are all working towards the same goal. We trust and motivate each other to play and stay fit. Even our youngest brother, who is currently six years old, is getting interested in sports. He loves to watch us play volleyball, and told me he wanted to hit like me. Recently, he also had me teach him how to throw a frisbee as well.
