In Shakespeare's "Hamlet," after seeing King Hamlet's ghost, Horatio tells to Marcellus that morning is breaking beyond a hill in the east and turning the sky red. The reason is that the cold morning has been so spooky and frightening that it looks as if something supernatural were happening.
