Read the passage. in which two ways are the narrator and her friend kim different?
when i got to class, the teacher was nowhere to be seen. as i sat down, my best friend kim came to my desk. “hey, did you do the math homework? ” kim asked. “yeah,” i said, “my mom me with it.” suddenly, the class, which was full of noisy students, fell silent. i looked up, but it was only melanie entering the room. she was the most unpopular student in our class. like everybody else, i went back to ignoring her. but she came to my desk. in a small voice, she said, “, c-can you me with the math homework? ” i didn’t say anything. i was so shocked. finally, i opened my mouth and said, “no.” the rest of the students began to giggle. melanie looked crushed, and i began to regret what i had said. it wasn’t that i didn’t want to her, but i was afraid that she would want to hang out with me. i might become unpopular like her! suddenly kim stood up. “i’m not very good at math,” she said. “but i can you if you want.” both melanie and i looked at her in shock. kim had already taken out her notebook. smiling at melanie, she handed it over.

What is the significance of the above statement in relation to the play’s conclusion? oedipus treats his inferiors poorly but ultimately grants them the same respect he grants to nobility. while teiresias appears to be mocking oedipus, the real message is one of warning about the forces working against the king. oedipus earns great fame for answering the riddle of the sphinx but ultimately loses his crown to a common man. just as oedipus is unable to conceive that he has done wrong in the past, he is unable to imagine that his enviable position is impermanent.
