1) austin reached into his backpack to make sure that it was there. he wasn't sure he needed his inhaler, but he was checking
just in case. his chest was tight as he once again attempted a deep breath. he completely filled his lungs and exhaled
smoothly. he repeated this rhythm several times, surprised at the ease at which it came. but he'd keep the inhaler in his
pocket. it had been a long time since he'd had a real asthma attack, since little league, in fact. but it was never too far from
his mind, especially when he played baseball
2) austin loved baseball, like fish love water, but he felt his asthma had probably kept him from reaching his full athletic
potential he knew today's practice would be tough, for tomorrow was a big game. he was right. it was rough, and austin and
several others weren't at the top of their game today. coach tanner firmly patted austin's shoulder as they headed for the
dugout "you've got to stop using it as a crutch, and let it go son" coach said in a firm, low voice.
coach tanner appears to be the kind of person who
a)
is mean and unsympathetic
b)
is only worried about winning.
c)
doesn't say what he means.
d)
sees the reasons for people's behaviors.

Read the passage first of all if someone says your dream is impossible, they’re wrong. you can’t prove that something is impossible-all you know is that[it] hasn’t been done yet. people said no one could scale mount everest but in 1953, sir edmund hilary and tenzing norway gazed down upon the world from it’s summit. people said that man could not fly, but in 1903, orville and wilbur wright made the first sustained powered flight in a heavier-than-air machine. people said, “okay, we admit that someone could climb mount everest, and we admit that man has learned to fly, but no one will ever, ever walk on the face of the moon.” if we can send three men a quarter of a million miles away and bring them home safely, is there any great task we cannot accomplish? which identifies the textual evidence that best supports the claim: the authors purpose is to persuade? a: the author shares historical information about the wright brothers. b: the author states that men have walked the moon. c: the author states that others who think your dreams are impossible are wrong. d: the author wants to know what tasks we cannot accomplish.

In the sweet hereafter and the following poem, what does the newborn symbolize? "every death is magic from the enemy to be avenged" by brooks haxton when fever burned the last light out of my daughter's eyes, i swore to find and kill the ones to blame. men must mount the long boat in the dark with spears. at dawn, where the flowering spicebush hid my scent, i crouched. a young wife, newborn slung across her chest, came first for spring water. she stooped. my god, for vengeance, spoke her secret name inside my ear. her god stepped back with no scream, his right hand at his mouth, the knuckles clenched between the pointed teeth. death is not evil. innocence of childhood the continuing cycle of life and death the children that will never be born
