the hobbit final project

directions: the final project for the hobbit has one main component: your choice of two assignments that equal 60 points. this assignment is worth 60 points and is due on thursday, november 11, 2018. follow the attached scoring guide for more information about each section.

a plethora o’options (30 points each)—choose (equals 60 points)

book cover
• you will redesign the hobbit book cover. you will need to include a synopsis for the book, new cover art, and two reviews for the book.

hobbit collage
• for the collage you will find pictures online or create pictures that tell the story of the hobbit. you will need at least 20 pictures. the pictures need to be laid out in a way that summarizes the story.

character map
• like with your book projects, you can create a character map for the hobbit. you will need to include the main characters, how they are related to each other, and who was involved in at least 5 major events from the book.

book advertisement
• you will create a poster advertisement for the hobbit. for the advertisement you will need to create original artwork, and write a few sentences persuading someone to read the book.

comic strip
• pick a scene from the book and create a comic strip depicting the scene. the comic should include at least six frames. this can be hand-drawn or computer generated.

script
• pick a scene from the book and write a short script for the scene. you should include information about the setting, characters, and proper script formatting.

option 1: book cover
component score
artwork features easily identifiable elements from the book.
synopsis of the book- make someone want to read the book.

option 2: hobbit collage
component score
you have at least 20 pictures (hand drawn or found online) that relate to the hobbit
your pictures feature a logical flow that summarize the story of the hobbit.
you have captions on most of the pictures that guide your summary.

option 3: character map
this may be drawn or done using some sort of presentation software (powerpoint, prezi, etc…)
component score
you feature most of the characters. (bilbo, the dwarves, gandalf, elrond, and smaug)
your character map must feature the race of each character, a picture of each character, their relation to at least one other character, and any major events they were in.
you must feature information about at least 5 major events from the book. you may use the ones from your travel log.

option 4: hobbit soundtrack
component score
features song title and artist for 5 songs (not already on the soundtrack or the lord of the rings soundtrack) that would fit on a soundtrack for the hobbit.
for each selected song you must include a few sentences saying why that song would work on the soundtrack.

option 5: book advertisement
component score
must feature artwork on a blank sheet of paper
you must include information about the book that would make someone want to read it. (not a full summary)

option 6: comic strip
this may be hand drawn or computer generated.
component score
features a scene from the hobbit. you cannot use the troll scene from chapter 2.
your comic must feature the title of the chapter the scene came from and have at least six frames of artwork and dialogue.

option 7: script
component score
features a scene from the hobbit. you must include the title of the chapter the scene came from.
the script must give background information about the setting and the characters involved.

this project is due on november 11, 2018
5 bonus points will be given to students who turn on time.
portions of this assignment can easily be completed before the completion of the novel.
