1.) it is a tried-and-true premise, the wacky family road trip, but “the long haul” breathes no new life into it. from weirdos on the highways and woeful motels with empty pools to kitschy roadside attractions and calamitous off-road detours, you have seen this all before. many, many times. this material had long seemed stale when the “vacation” reboot came out in 2015. bowers’ slapstick tone and frantic pacing strain desperately to create an escalating sense of giddy mayhem, but the result feels like a lot of wheel-spinning.

5.) with a team of so many great heroes and a cast only growing in star power, it comes as no surprise that every role is played perfectly – even if quicksilver and scarlett witch didn’t share as much screen time as the final winter soldier scene would have had you believe. with thor having arguably the best one liners, and hawkeye actually getting a reason to live, it's nice to see comedic pitches and action home runs being expertly delivered rather than woefully batted around.
