the dominant spirit that haunts this enchanted region is the ghost of a figure on horseback, without a head. it is said by some to be the spirit of a hessian german soldier, whose head was carried away by a cannonball during the revolutionary war. ever since then, the soldier has been seen hurrying along in the gloom of night, as if on the wings of the wind.
