Anne Bradstreet was considered unorthodox because she spoke of religious topics, which was against the Puritans code back then for women (to the Puritan leaders, women were for nothing but taking care of the house and children), but because she spoke of religious topics, the leaders didn't like her and threw her in prison.  

She also spoke of the life of women.
