After waiting for carlos for two hours, dave begins to wonder whether carlos has the night sickness that patricia described. why was carlos actually late to meet dave?

In the story "Nighttime in Texas", Dave had gone to San Antonio to spend a few days with his friend Carlos. Taking a taxi from the airport, he reached the place "with gardenias outside and the silver scooter parked in the driveway". But no one seems to be home. So, he waited for some time.

But when an hour had passed and Carlos did not turn up to open the door, Dave became worried. He then saw Patricia, the girlfriend of Carlos. She began telling him about the strange occurrence in the community where people with a severe cases of sleepwalking do weird things at night. In the end, Carlos finally arrived in his car, explaining that he had a "flat tire on my way to the 7/11, and I had to hitch a ride to the nearest gas station." He also revealed his cell phone died which left him unable to contact him.

1. this isn't like any other story i've read or watched because it is about a black family in mississippi right after slavery in the u.s. had become illegal. most of the novels i have read were about slavery. another point is that the author of the novel used symbolism in a way i haven't seen before. for example she uses thunder as something negative meaning something bad will happen. but by the end of the novel, she made thunder a good thing.

2.   one character that changed during the novel was stacey. stacey is the eldest child of the black logan family. around the begging of the novel stacey was avoiding the white boy jeremy simms. he had a dislike for jeremy's family. but at the end of the novel stacey began to like jeremy.

3. the author starts the novel with the problem that the children of the logan family have to avoid the white kid school bus while walking to school.
