The vampire slayer part 2
by: wildfire

the cops looked at me confused. i shook my head and sighed, “just find whoever killed my mother, .” they stared at me for a few minutes then nodded their head, “do you have any place to stay for a while? ” i nodded and smiled. after a half an hour of me packing a few things up and gathering a few things, i went to my friend’s house, anabelle. i knocked on the door and anabelle opened the door.

“hey vic! ” i smiled lightly. she looked down and seen i was carrying my favorite suitcase for when i spend the night at her house, “what’s going on vic? ” i sighed, “can i come in and tell you? ” anabelle nodded and moved away from the door. i stepped in and sat my suitcase down as she shuts the door. “want anything to drink? ” she asked. “do you have tea? ” anabelle nodded and went into the kitchen to make the tea. i followed her into the kitchen and sat down at the table covering my face and holding my head up.

she rubbed my back then sat down, “vic? what happened? ” i sighed again and said, “mom, mom is dead.” anabelle opened her mouth open. to anabelle, my mother is her mother. “vic, i’m so sorry.” i shook my head as the tea started to make boiling noise. she got up and poured some tea into two cups and put a little sugar in them, then, sat a cup down in front of me. she sat down beside me and started hugging me, “i’m so sorry sis.” she slowly started crying. “ana? ” i looked up at her, “yes, vic? ” i looked at her then, “can i stay with you for a while until they find out what happened to her? ”

anabelle nodded and hugged me again. after we got done weeping i grabbed my suitcase and went to the guest room. i made the bed and put my clothes in the drawer. i put my books on the table that was next to my bed, then put my picture on the table. i turned on the light and smiled at the picture of my mother. i finished packing then i went back to the kitchen and sat back down drinking my tea.

“what do you want to eat for dinner, vic? ” i shrugged my shoulders, i didn’t really care what i ate for dinner, and anabelle knew that but she still asks. she smiled and looked in the fridge. after dinner and shower, i brushed my teeth. then i looked at the picture on the table and i grabbed it. i looked at it for a few minutes then kissed it and sat it down, “good night mom.” i smiled slightly and laid down, grabbing a book off the table. 12: 30 i stopped reading and sat the book on the table. i closed my eyes and feel asleep. few minutes after i fell asleep, i heard a bump.

i just shook it off and feel back to sleep. i yawned and turned over. the next morning i woke up and looked around. “ana? ” anabelle didn’t answer so maybe she was still asleep. i walked in the kitchen and i seen a note by a full cup of coffee “went to go get something for lunch” it said. i threw it away and drinked couch. i turned on the tv and watched some kind of horror movie.

anabelle came back and went to the kitchen with the stuff for lunch. she got hot dogs, mash potatoes, and mac & cheese. my stomach growled and i smiled. we cooked everything and ate it. i told anabelle that i want to walk, she just nodded and went to the living room to watch tv.

i grabbed a sweater just in case and went to the door, i looked at ana just in case she was going to say something. “be careful vic.” was all she said so i nodded and went out the door. i put my sweater on and started walking. i seen some people on bicycles, but, i kept walking just looking down.

Read this excerpt from "the light of gandhi's lamp" by hilary kromberg inglis, in which she describes driving to the police station where her sister is being detained. to avoid looking at the blackened windows at the top of the building and thinking about the history of who had died or been tortured there, i always looked instead at the little chinese restaurant on the opposite side of the road. how does this passage affect the text? it conveys, with great subtlety, the conflict she felt over having a sister who would break the law and end up in the custody of the police. it conveys, without any implied moral judgment, that those who fought against apartheid considered themselves to be soldiers in a just war. it conveys, with an extended metaphor, the idea that being detained by the police in this society was regarded as a badge of honor. it conveys, with direct language, the view held by many anti-apartheid activists that the police often acted in brutal and unlawful ways.

Ajourney with my father adapted from my reminiscences by sir rabindranath tagore probably in order to teach me to be careful, my father placed a little small change in my charge and required me to keep an account of it. he also entrusted me with the duty of winding his valuable gold watch for him. he overlooked the risk of damage in his desire to train me to a sense of responsibility. when we went out together for our morning walk, he would ask me to give alms to any beggars we came across. but i never could render him a proper account at the end of it. one day, my balance was larger than the account warranted. "i really must make you my cashier," observed my father. "money seems to have a way of growing in your hands! " that watch of his i wound up with such indefatigable1 zeal that it had very soon to be sent to the watchmaker's in calcutta. i am reminded of the time when, later in life, i was appointed to manage the estate and had to lay before my father, owing to his failing eyesight, a statement of accounts on the second or third of every month. i had first to read out the totals under each head, and if he had any doubts on any point, he would ask for the details. if i made any attempt to slur over or keep out of sight any item which i feared he would not like, it was sure to come out. so, these first few days of the month were very anxious ones for me. as i have said, my father had the habit of keeping everything clearly before his mind—whether figures of accounts, or ceremonial arrangements, or additions or alterations to property. he had never seen the new assembly hall built at bolpur, and yet, he was familiar with every detail of it from questioning those who came to see him after a visit to bolpur. he had an extraordinary memory, and when once he got hold of a fact, it never escaped him. my father asked me to copy the favourite verses, with their translation, from the book he liked reading every day. at home, i had been a boy of no account. here, when these important functions were entrusted to me, i felt the glory of the situation. 1. tireless 7 how does the narrator support the idea that his father keeps everything clearly before his mind? a. by giving the example of his father's response when his account did not tally with the money that he had in hand b. by mentioning that his father was interested in everything that happened around him c. by giving the example of his father knowing every detail of the new assembly hall at bolpur d. by mentioning that his father had marked his favorite verses from his favorite book
