marine mammals essay

marine mammals are warm blooded creatures who use the oceans and their ecosystems for survival. all the marine mammals have similar characteristics, and they are divided into four groups: pinnipeds, cetaceans, sea otters, and polar bears. these types of animals know how to stay warm and are very accommodate to swimming. they also have hair or fur along with lungs. here are the types of marine animals and deeper detail of their characteristics.

pinnipeds are carnivores that can adjust to both air and water conditions. pinnipeds have spindle shaped bodies and four webbed flippers. the flippers are there to propel themselves through the water. the spindle shaped body is also a very great feature that the pinnipeds swim through the water. and with big eyes and great whiskers, they can manage parts of the ocean with very dim light. their bodies also have fur and blubber to keep them very warm. seals, sea lions, and walruses fall under the pinniped category as they own all of these traits along with the ability to adjust to air and water conditions.

cetaceans are large sea animals based on a latin word called cetus which means large sea animals. among these are whales, dolphins, and porpoises, which are all very big animals. unlike other sea animals though, cetaceans move their tails in an up-and-down motion. some cetaceans can swim fast: more than thirty miles per hour. a cetacean’s sense of smell and sight can be poor, but cetaceans have excellent hearing. with this skill, these creatures can detect the direction of sound. these animals also have very flexible bones and twenty-four inches of blubber to keep their bodies warm.

sea otters are an endangered species who reside in the north pacific ocean. these otters have a great sense vision a good sense of smell and very strong teeth. they have dense fur and a strong flat tail. like pinnipeds, they have flipper like feet as well as retractable claws. when sea otters sleep an night, they hold each other’s paws to prevent floating away in the waters at night. however, sea otter are big victims of killer whales and sharks as sea otters are actually the smallest animals of the marine mammals.

polar bears are animals that own a very slim body and a long neck. they have narrow heads as well as small eyes along with outer ears like us humans do. polar bears also have paddle like paws with webbed toes. they also have short tails and five short non-retractable claws. their whole bodies are covered in hair except their lips, nose, and part soles of the feet. also, polar bears are actually the biggest carnivore on land, or the biggest meat eater. polar bears have a great sense of smell as well.

marine mammals are great animals, and are very strong, each in its own ways. these animals can have such traits from webbed feet, to excellent senses of smell, sight, and hearing. marine mammals

Read the passage from a raisin in the sun. mama: lord have mercy, baby. you done gone and bought your grandmother a hat? travis (very proud): open it! she does and lifts out an elaborate, but very elaborate, wide gardening hat, and all the adults break up at the sight of it. ruth: travis, honey, what is that? travis (who thinks it is beautiful and appropriate): it's a gardening hat! like the ladies always have on in the magazines when they work in their gardens. beneatha (giggling fiercely): travis—we were trying to make mama mrs. miniver—not scarlett o'hara! mama (indignantly): what's the matter with you all! this here is a beautiful hat! (absurdly.) i always wanted me one just like it! which word or phrase from the text best supports the idea that the adults think the hat is inappropriate? “have mercy” (giggling fiercely) (indignantly) “what’s the matter”
