american culture
we have read "my life as an undocumented immigrant" by jose antonio vargas,
"hillbilly elegy" by j. d. vance, "why america is self-segregating" by danah boyd, and "on
the front lines of a new culture war" by steve kolowicki. from these articles you should have
de veloped or strengthened your opinions about groups of others': where do you belong? do
you break out and join other groups or is there a tendency to stay with people like yourself?
do you believe people in america are self-segregating or are we learning to work
together? why might this be important?
ujjv
your argument will be based on why this is important and where you see our country
heading now. are we becoming more accepting of other groups of people, or more
discriminating? which groups are considered to be 'others'? who do we accept without
question?
you can talk about skin color, first languages, religion, cultural traditions and food - or
other things. you want to make a compelling argument about whether we are heading in a good
direction or not. and why is that happening?
use quotes from the sources, or from your research (on the library database). i
would like to see 3-4 pages, plus a works cited page.
we will work on these drafts this week and next and then they will be due on october 8.
