There's a sort of generic answer to this. Any media or any method used to try and raise money for worthwhile projects, is good. Raising money for things that are worthwhile is always a good thing.

Now here's the sticky part. (There always is one). How do you define worthwhile? What is worthwhile? A druggy may think that raising money for his habit is worthwhile. And for him it is. But is it? Is money used to destroy oneself worthwhile? As you can see, it depends on who is doing the defining. Personally I wouldn't give a dime to such an enterprise.

On the other hand, if you are talking about a cure for Cancer, I would say this is beyond worthwhile. Cancer is a really insidious disease. Your chances of escaping its effects the second time are almost nil. I'd give many dimes to this kind of enterprise and it would not matter to me where I saw the plea, be it social media or anywhere else.
