I think that Emerson would consider Beowulf a hero. My reasoning behind this choice is that self trust is the essence of heroism. It is the state of the soul at war , and its ultimate objects are the last defiance of falsehood and wrong, and thee power to bear all that can be inflected by evil agents. It speaks the truth, and it is just , generous, hospitable, temperate, scornful of small calculations, and scornful of being scorned. One quality Emerson noted was a soldier of war attitude. Beowulf exhibits this quality in the following quote: " Friend-lord of folks, so far have I sought thee. That I may unaided , my earlmen assisting me. This brave-mooded war band , purify Heorot ''.Emerson goes on to put a hero's heroism has been in character since he was a young man. Beowulf was a brave man, he risked his life not only for his family but those around him as well. He was not only that, but a responsible and faithful maman as well as courageous.
