read the excerpt from "homesick blues." well, i'm here now, and the reality of the situation is far removed from my expectations. the efficiency apartment i’m sharing with another newbie, alyssa, is barely big enough to turn around in. the electrical outlet in the kitchen is a fire hazard, and i fear i'll be electrocuted one day. we have been calling the maintenance man about that and the roaches and the noise and the dripping faucets and the cracked window for months. it’s definitely a no-frills establishment. but it's affordable for two people splitting the rent and bills, although neither of us has much money left over at the end of the month. remember all the wonderful experiences the magazine offered during the internship? i surely can't afford any of them now. what information from the excerpt is ironic?
the narrator has a worse quality of life with a full-time job than she did with an internship.
the narrator's apartment is shabby and needs maintenance in order to make it similar to her rural home.
the narrator shares an apartment with someone also new to the city who has similar interests.
the narrator fears being electrocuted and must call the maintenance man to fix problems.

In order really to hate white people, one has to blot so much out of the mind — and the heart — that this hatred itself becomes an exhausting and self-destructive pose. but this does not mean, on the other hand, that love comes easily: the white world is too powerful, too complacent, too ready with gratuitous humiliation, and, above all, too ignorant and too innocent for that. which sentence best explains how the use of parallelism in the excerpt supports baldwin's purpose? a. it proves baldwin's central idea by highlighting the obvious. b. it emphasizes the problems that prevent one from loving the white world. c. it explains why the white world is unable to replace hate with love. d. it enumerates the many ways of dealing with the white world.
