To begin with, you have to bear in mind that for writing an essay, you need to research the topic given. It is good to start your essay by catching the reader's attention by telling them about a personal anecdote, a rhetorical question or some background information. Apart from that, the paragraphs should be well developed through keywords that you have stated in the introduction. Each of the paragraphs should be developed through clear and precise information. However, to make your paragraphs flow, you need to use certain strategies. First, logos derives from logic. Use logic to persuade the reader that what you are saying is correct. That is you appeal to already existing facts or knowledge. For example in a persuasive essay on the use of renewable energy, you can state the benefits and uses of solar energy. This is a piece of verifiable information that has been demonstrated. Second, the ethos strategy can be used to persuade the reader that you are qualified to speak in favor of or against the topic you are writing about. This is very difficult to achieve but not impossible. You should make the reader know that you have experienced what you are saying. There must be details on previous experience. Third, pathos is the choice of words that you use to address the reader's feelings. For instance, if you intend to persuade the reader that war is a negative aspect of humanity, it is possible to use powerful and shocking words like victims, massacres, annihilation or apartheid.

These three strategies should help you have a balanced essay, but its structure and other rhetorical devices are also important to succeed in persuading someone.
