In the story, the character of Dionysius was shown as a bully and authoritarian, even accusing Pythias of treason and kept him captive to be executed. His accusation which was just a belief that Pyhtias wants to remove him from his throne was not true but him, being the king, had his way. He also refused to let him go home once to settle his family matters. When suggested with Damon replacing Pythias while he did his affairs, Dionysius accepts, for he's happy as long as he had someone to get the blame.
