Through the reading of this book,  it could be said that the theme "maturity is reached by experience" can be applied and also three major events can be cited that demonstrate that Henry has reached maturity. These thre events are:

1. The conflict he had with his mother who was worried about his safety and didn't want him to enlist.  Henry felt  selfish and ignores her mother's feeling.

2. Henry felt confidence when joining with his fellow to hold the line.

3. Henry got maturity when set aside his own ego and decided to look for glory.

These three events contributes to Henry's growth but he didn't reach the total maturity at all. This lack of maturity are supported by Henry's behavior in the next battle when:

1. He feels fear, drops his rifle and runs as his fellow next to him does.

2. He  abandons a wounded soldier, known as the Tattered Soldier,
