Bede or Saint Bede the Venerable was an English Benedictine monk who was part of the Monastery of St. Paul, Jarrow. He spent his time in the Monastery devoted to learn through all the sources he had access to. (learned monks, books, and documents). He composed 45 books of his own, including the Ecclesiastical History of the English People (which was divided in 5 books).

He's work tells the story of the conversion of the English people to Christianity, Bede's account is the main source of information about the English history from 597 until 731.  It is divided in five groups where Bede tells the facts about the history of the Church in Britain.

For him, Latin is a unifying factor because it gives people a common identity, and a way to communicate with each other. Common or shared historical experiences also unifies people, while differences in morality, culture, religion and language divides a nation. According to Bede the unifying factors seem stronger.
