Write a short story where a main character deals with a problem and finds a solution!

It would be better if you mention which grade you are in and which class this story is for. But here you go:

It was a cold winter night and I was home alone.  My parents had gone on vacation in Hawaii. I was old enough and did not need a baby sitter but my parents had asked my older cousin to stay with me. He called after I had dinner saying he would be staying at his girl friend's place instead. I said fine and told him to have fun.

I was watching TV when the power suddenly went out. I looked outside the window and the whole neighborhood was dark too. I told myself to stay calm and I found a flash light. A shadow dashed towards me. I was surprised but realized it was my cat. His name was Dash. I played with Dash by pointing the flash light for him to chase.

Power remained off after an hour and I wanted to go to bed. I put Dash on his cot and covered him with blanket. Home was getting cold as the heat went out with the power. I got in bed and found out it was really cold. After twisting and turning for thirty minutes, I could not fall asleep in the cold bed.

I got up and warmed some milk in the microwave. Dash heard me and ran to me. His body was shaking a little. "So you cannot sleep either huh? Look like we have a problem here, Dash." I rubbed his body trying to warm him up. Just then I had an idea.

I warmed more milk and shared it with Dash. We both felt pretty good and warm. I took Dash to my room and let him sleep by me. Our body heat kept each of us warm and comfortable. We both fell asleep shortly after. The power and heat were back on by the time Dash and I woke up in the morning.
