I wake up to the feeling of the warm sun shining down on me. I open my eyes to the blue sky, and start to think about how hungry I am. I stretch my wings and launch myself into the air to soar across the green fields in search of a meal.

I could feel the air underneath my wings. It coursed through my newly formed feathers and carried me upward on an unseen dune. It's so hard to describe just how perfect it felt. On the ground, I had felt so fragile and vulnerable. But up here? Up here was a different story. Up here was a different world. A world where I felt strong and that everything was meant to be. The words hung in the breeze, unspoken, but still there: this was meant to be. I saw the earth below me. The blanket of grass moved in slow, lazy waves in the same breeze that carried me aloft. Everything melded into a gradient of colors, like an oil painting that has been smeared. And it was beautiful.
