being pathos, an appeal to emotions to persuade an audience, logos an appeal to that which seems to be logical and reasonable, and ethos, an appeal to authority or credibility, in henry´s speech, before the 2nd vrigina convention on march 23rd of 1775, there are a few features we could highlight.

first of all, there is a rethorical appeal to credibility. this is contained in the metaphor of being guided by onle lamp,the lamp of experience, which tries to demonstrate that he does know well: the british and he knows that the deployment of vessesl has no peaceful intentions. the speech itself appeals to reasonings, as he frequently ask questions such as

.."are fleets and armies necessary to a work of love and reconciliation? have we shown ourselves so unwilling to be reconciled, that force must be called in to win back our love? " ..

or when he suggests: "i ask gentlemen sir, what means thismartial array if its purpose be not toforce us to submission? ".

and this couple of examples can show the purpose of the speech: to convince the convention that the war is necessary, it is something that has to be done, as the would be facing an unfair agression, so that the british cannot be trusted hence, the american are being treated misrespectfully and have been underestimated, and this is reinforced with ideas such as:
