How does paragraph 57 contribute to the meaning of the short story? mr. bueller shuffled through the papers on his desk. he smiled and hummed as he sat down to work. he remembered his college years when he dated a girlfriend in borrowed cars. she thought he was rich because each time he picked her up he had a different car. it was fun until he had spent all his money on her and had to write home to his parents because he was broke.

In this story, we meet Victor. He is a twelve-year-old boy who likes a classmate, Teresa. In order to impress her, Victor pretends to be able to speak French. However, Victor is actually unable to do so. However, later on, Victor is able to talk to Teresa simply by being himself.

The meaning of the story is that, although we might sometimes be tempted to act differently in order to please someone, it is always better to be ourselves. This is also demonstrated in this passage. In the passage, Mr. Bueller reflects on how he had the same idea as Victor. He also lied to impress girls when he was younger. However, he now understands that it is better to be yourself. Therefore, the story enhances the message of the story.
