I think it's B: He asks the priest to instruct him on the best way to impress the elder in the village because he wants to resolve a matter not have a fight with the villagers. I think he must feel confused about having to hear such language her has never heard of before. Sometimes people don't understand what others are trying to say because they speak a different language than the language they are hearing from people her has never met and maybe he belongs to a different country who talks in English or Arabic or even Japanese and Korean.
