Consider an unconfined aquifer that is isotropic and homogenous. It has a hydraulic conductivity of 0.0018cm/s and an effective porosity of 0.25. The aquifer is in a bed of sand with auniform thickness of 40m. A small town is built on top of this aquifer. Two channelsthat are 300m apart border the aquifer. The channel on the left sidehas a depth to water that is7.8m below the land surface, while the channelon the right side has a depth to water that is 10.5 m from the surface. a. Plot the water table profile of this system assuming water in the aquifer only comes from the channels and there is no net loss/gain from evaporation/infiltration b. Determine the minimum infiltration rate at which the land surface will begin saturating, and provide the location between the channels where surface saturation first occurs. This information is critical to reinforce buildings in the town that could experience liquefaction c. The infiltration rate after a heavy storm is 6E-07 m/s. Determine if land saturation is expected to occur, and if so, the span of land that could be surface saturated d. Imagine that the storm has continued for days. As consultant, you might recommend pumping water out of one of the two channels to restore a safe depth to water-table that is at least 4m below the land surface. Which channel would be best to pump water out of and how low would you require the water to be in the channel to achieve this safety measure?

Refrigerant 134a enters an insulated compressor operating at steady state as saturated vapor at -26°c with a volumetric flow rate of 0.18 m3/s. refrigerant exits at 9 bar, 70°c. changes in kinetic and potential energy from inlet to exit can be ignored. determine the volumetric flow rate at the exit, in m3/s, and the compressor power, in kw.
