Project: Construction and Demolition Materials in Single-Family Homes: Analyze an EPA Report Assignment directions

In this project you will consider what to do with the C&D materials after a house is demolished. Read the EPA report “Analysis of the Life Cycle Impacts and Potential for Avoided Impacts Associated with Single-Family Homes” at epa. gov and answer the questions below.

Assignment guidelines

Part 1: Write a short introduction that defines life-cycle assessment, its phases, and what C&D materials are. Label it “Introduction.”

Part 2: Answers the following questions in complete paragraphs. Label this section “Analysis.” Number your answers 1 through 4:

1. What are some of the health and safety considerations for recycled or reused materials?
2. Do you think adherence to Life Cycle Assessment is good for the construction industry? Why or why not?
3. How is demolishing a house like building a house?
4. Which process appeals to you more: Building a house or demolishing a house? Explain your opinions.
Feel free to consult other resources for more information or to help you form an opinion. If you do, please list them in a Reference section with URLs if applicable.

Submission requirements

Submit your paper electronically. It should be 2 to 3 pages long. Sentences should be complete. Define your terms. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar count.
