You are the only hydraulic engineer at the Niobrara River Engineering Company located in the small town of Valentine, Nebraska and as such have been given the task of answering a hydraulics question from the Valentine City Council. Due to a recent arson fire that destroyed most of the City's records, they have no idea as to the flow rate from the secondary potable water reservoir, located on the outskirts of town, to the main potable water reservoir located in the center of town. The Council does know that the water surface elevation difference between the upper secondary reservoir and the primary lower in-town reservoir is 65.6 feet and that the piping system connecting the two reservoirs is as follows: the initial single pipe discharging from the secondary reservoir, 200 meters in length with a diameter of 50 centimeters, connects to two parallel pipes, one 400 meters in length with a diameter of 20 centimeters and the other 400 meters in length with a diameter of 40 centimeters, which then connect back to a single pipe that connects to the primary in-town reservoir with a length of 500 meters and a diameter of 50 centimeters. All pipes have the same 0.30 friction factor (f). Required:
You must determine the flow rates that will occur in all four pipes.

Amass of 1.5 kg of air at 120 kpa and 24°c is contained in a gas-tight, frictionless piston-cylinder device. the air is now compressed to a final pressure of 720 kpa. during the process, heat is transferred from the air such that the temperature inside the cylinder remains constant. calculate the boundary work input during this process.

If the thermal strain developed in polyimide film during deposition is given as 0.0044. assume room temperature is kept at 17.3 c, and thermal coefficient of expansion for the film and the substrate are 54 x 10^-6c^-1 and 3.3 x 10^-6c^-1respectively. calculate the deposition temperature.

Two flowing streams of argon gas are adiabatically mixed to form a single flow/stream. one stream is 1.5 kg/s at 400 kpa and 200 c while the second stream is 2kg/s at 500 kpa and 100 ? . it is stated that the exit state of the mixed single flow of argon gas is 150 c and 300 kpa. assuming there is no work output or input during the mixing process, does this process violate either the first or the second law or both? explain and state all your assumptions.
